Zero-click search

A search that ends without any click on a result, because the answer is already on the page. About 60% of searches in 2025-2026.

A zero-click search is one that ends without any click on a result: the user reads the answer (a box, a snippet, an AI Overview) and leaves. According to 2025-2026 studies it accounts for about 60% of searches, and grows with the spread of generative answers: when an AI Overview appears, clicks on results drop from 15% to 8% (Pew Research, 2025).

For a company it means that most decisions taken from a search leave no trace in its own traffic: whoever evaluates a supplier, an employer or an investment may already have formed an opinion by reading an answer. Measuring the answers, and not only the visits, is the reason for GEO.
