AI Mode (Google)

The conversational mode of Google Search, in which the whole results page is a generated answer.

AI Mode is the Google Search mode in which the results page is entirely an answer generated by Gemini, with follow-up questions, as in an assistant. Whereas AI Overviews sit alongside traditional results, AI Mode replaces them. Google reported over one billion monthly users in 2026.

For GEO, AI Mode is the end point of the shift: search becomes a conversation, and what counts is being among the entities and sources the model assembles in the answer, not the position in a list the user no longer sees.
