GEO glossary

Entity

A company, person or product as an object identifiable by machines, with a name, identifiers and relationships.

An entity is an object in the world (a company, a person, a product, a place) that machines recognise as unique, with a name, identifiers and relationships to other entities. Generative models reason in entities: they do not ask "which page answers", but "what do I know about this company and from where".

For GEO the entity is the unit of work. A strong entity (complete Wikidata entry, Knowledge Graph, consistent structured data, profiles linked with sameAs) receives correct facts and is not confused with namesakes; a weak entity produces hallucinations and absences. Completing the entity is almost always the first intervention in the plan.
