GEO glossary
The presence of a company's name in a generative answer, not necessarily with a link to the source.
A mention is the basic level of presence in a generative answer: the name of the company, brand or person appears in the text. It implies neither a link nor a recommendation; it says that the model knows the entity and considers it relevant to the question.
In assessments the mention is measured as frequency: in how many answers, over how many repetitions of the same question, the name appears. It is the first indicator to move for those who are absent today from category questions, and it differs from the citation (the reference to a source) and the recommendation (being proposed as an option in a choice question).
