GEO glossary
The hosting and CDN rules that block automated traffic, often including AI crawlers without the owner knowing.
Anti-bot protection is the set of rules with which hosts, CDNs and firewalls block automated traffic: scrapers, malicious bots and, increasingly, by default, AI crawlers. Several providers offer a "block AI bots" switch that is on by default, with the aim of preventing content from being used for training.
For those who want to be cited the effect is the opposite of the intended one: blocked pages cannot be read or cited, neither for training nor for real-time search. It should be decided consciously, site by site: for a website that sells its own presence in AI answers, crawlers must be allowed and checked in the logs.
