Dated narrative

A true but superseded fact (a crisis, a lawsuit, a restructuring) that AI tells in the present tense because no more recent source has updated it.

A dated narrative is a true but superseded fact (a restructuring, a closed lawsuit, a dismissed investigation, a withdrawn product) that generative models tell in the present tense. It is the most frequent problem in corporate, investor and founder assessments, and it arises from a single condition: an authoritative source that no more authoritative source has updated.

It is not corrected with a press release on your own website, a partisan and isolated source. It is corrected by updating the primary source (Wikipedia, Wikidata), creating a more recent third-party source (an interview, an article with data), publishing a "what has changed" timeline with dates and sources, replying where the narrative lives. More in the article on dated narratives.
